DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)

DB

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, DBT, was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan.  Her groundbreaking work has helped thousands of patients, many of whom were formerly considered difficult to treat.  DBT has been shown to be very effective in treating depression, anxiety, self-injury/harm and eating disorders.

The Solution Center has adapted the work of Dr. Linehan to use DBT techniques to treat individuals and improve skills useful in regulating emotions.  These skills will help adults and adolescents manage difficult emotional experiences, substitute maladaptive behaviors, and develop a more mindful approach to their lives through caring and effective psychotherapy.

The Solution Center therapists offer a 10-week program consisting of individual psychotherapy and DBT skills training.  The program is designed for those having difficulty with depression, anxiety, self-injury/harm, eating disorders and emotional regulation, and can teach effective coping skills that, over time, can replace maladaptive behaviors.  In addition, phone coaching is available to our DBT clients.

In addition to the above, DBT effectively treats the following disorders and symptoms:

•        suicidal behaviors

•        personality disorders

•        reckless behavior

•        destructive behavior

•        low self-esteem

•        poor self-image

DBT also teaches the following skills to help our clients successfully manage life:

•        mindfulness

•        distress tolerance

•        emotional regulation

•        interpersonal skills

•        self-care
